Football is one of the best sports for kids to stay active, healthy, and happy. Even when they can’t make it to the pitch, there are many fun drills they can do at home to improve their skills, build confidence, and keep their love for the game alive.
At First Touch FC, we believe in creating opportunities for young players to learn, grow, and enjoy football—whether they’re at our Sunday sessions, holiday camps, or practicing in their own backyard.
Here are five simple and effective drills your child can try at home, no fancy equipment required!

1. Dribbling Obstacle Course
Goal: Improve ball control and agility.
How to do it:
Set up small objects such as cones, water bottles, or even shoes in a zig-zag pattern.
Have your child dribble the ball through the obstacles as quickly and smoothly as possible.
Encourage them to use both feet for better balance and coordination.
Tip:
Time each run and let them challenge themselves to beat their previous time. This adds excitement and keeps them motivated.
2. Wall Pass Practice
Goal: Improve passing accuracy and first touch.
How to do it:
Find a sturdy wall or fence.
Have your child kick the ball against the wall, then control it as it bounces back.
Encourage one-touch passes to increase speed and precision.
Start slowly, then build up intensity as their confidence grows.
Tip:
Mark a target on the wall with chalk or tape to help focus on passing accuracy.
3. Keepy-Uppies (Juggling)
Goal: Develop ball control, focus, and coordination.
How to do it:
Start by dropping the ball and kicking it up with one foot.
Alternate between feet, knees, or even shoulders, trying to keep the ball off the ground for as long as possible.
This drill helps kids get comfortable with the ball while improving balance.
Challenge:
See how many consecutive touches they can achieve without the ball hitting the ground.
4. Shooting Accuracy Drill
Goal: Improve shooting power and aim.
How to do it:
Create a goal using two objects like chairs or buckets.
Place a few targets inside the goal, such as plastic bottles or soft toys.
Have your child practice shooting to knock down the targets.
Encourage them to shoot with both feet for better development.
Tip:
Make it fun by keeping score—each target hit earns a point!
5. Fitness & Footwork Ladder Drill
Goal: Build speed, agility, and stamina.
How to do it:
If you don’t have a speed ladder, create one using tape or chalk.
Have your child run through the ladder, placing one or two feet in each space, as fast as possible.
Combine this with dribbling for a fun twist: dribble through the ladder while maintaining control.
Variation:
Try side steps, high knees, or hopping through the ladder to keep the drill exciting.
